Privacy Policy
Wolkenkaart respects your privacy. This policy describes what data is processed and how.
Location data
If you grant permission, your coordinates are sent to our server once to determine the nearest location. Coordinates are not stored in a database or shared with third parties. They may temporarily appear in operational server logs retained for debugging and deleted after a maximum of 30 days.
Local storage
We use localStorage in your browser for theme preference (light/dark), location consent, and analytics consent. No cookies are set unless you accept analytics; in that case Google sets _ga and _ga_* cookies as described below.
Data source
All weather data comes from KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute). No user data is shared with KNMI.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) only after you consent. Until you accept, no GA4 script loads and no GA4 cookies are set. If you accept, GA4 sets the cookies _ga and _ga_* (1st-party, ~13-month expiry) and records the following events tied to a random GA-generated identifier stored in those cookies: page views, layer changes, search use, geolocation accept/deny, language and theme changes. Wolkenkaart's own servers do not log your IP address for analytics purposes. Google receives your IP at the moment of each event (this is unavoidable for any HTTP request) and uses it briefly to derive coarse geographic categorization (country/region); per Google's defaults, the full IP is not retained. We do not collect your name, email, or any other directly identifying data. You can withdraw consent at any time using the toggle below; on withdrawal we delete the GA4 cookies, set Google's official opt-out flag for the page, and stop sending events immediately.
Future changes
This policy will be updated when features requiring personal data are added, such as API key registration with email.
